Ghana History and Wildlife Safari

We will have seven days of exploration of the unique jewels of the natural destinations of Ghana. This tour is also an opportunity for people to participate in trilling and physically engaging activities that keep us fit.

Day 1: Accra

Walking tour in the city depending on the time of arrival. Stay in Accra overnight.

Aburi Botanical Garden

Aburi garden is a very beautiful and popular destination found on the hills of Aburi in the Eastern part of Ghana, a few kilometers away from the main city, Accra. The garden is made up of hundreds of plants which have a lot of medicinal uses, some of which are used to cure many illnesses. They are used to making different spices and are also used for beautification purposes. There is also a carved tree which looks like a real dead tree, which represents the struggles of life. Most of the trees were planted by some colonial masters, and other important person leaders around Africa.

Day 2– Eastern Region

Shai hills Resource Reserve (Drive from Accra to Akosombo)
Ghana is a great destination for bird watching with over 760 bird species and this is one of the amazing places for bird watching.One can encounter the local bird life at a comfortable pace. Shai Hills is a good site to see many species of birds and other insects. There are other animals like zebras, Ostrich and deer. There are many caves which used to serve as a home for many native centuries ago.

Adomi Bridge

Adomi Bridge is a very beautiful bridge located at Akosombo. It’s surrounded by a man-made Lake and islands. The Lake generates electricity for Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso etc.

Boti Falls

River Pawnpawn takes its source from Ahenkwa-Amalakpo before falling over an igneous rock outcrop at the Boti Langmase popularly known as Boti falls. The fall had been hidden in the forest and later discovered by a white catholic priest. The Boti falls is made up of the upper falls and the lower falls, which the locals describe as male and female. 

Cedi Bead Factor

It is a site for learning bead making and checking out already made beads displayed for purchase. Guests will get the opportunity to experience the process of bead making from start to finish. The night will be spent in a hotel in Volta Region.

Day 3 – Volta Region

Mountain Afadjato

It’s a beautiful tourist site in the Volta Region and the highest mountain in Ghana, welcoming over thousands of visitors around the world. It takes 40mins-2hours to climb the mountain, but it depends on the individual.

Wli Waterfall

The Wli Falls is known to be the longest/highest waterfall in West Africa. The fall is locally known as Agumatsa waterfalls, which simply means “Allow Me to Flow ”. It is located approximately 280 km from the capital city of Ghana, Accra.

Tafi Monkey Sanctuary

It is a forest and a habitat to over 700 Sacred Mona Monkeys population that live in a protected virgin forest which is in a ‘U’ shape form. Guests will get the opportunity to see the monkeys up close and feed them. These mona monkeys are very friendly and love to pose for pictures with guests. Drive back to Accra. Overnight stay in Accra.

Day 4 – Cape Coast

Kakum National Park

The Kakum National Park was established in 1932. Kakum National Park is a home for lovers of nature. The Park is made up of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest and is one of the famous national parks in Ghana. It protects plant and animal treasures of the African tropical forest. Trails provide self-guided day hiking opportunities where you may sight some over 200 bird species represented: the parrot, bee-eaters, blue plantain-eaters, hornbills, and kingfishers. The dense vegetation provides cover for globally endangered species such as the forest elephant and bongo – the largest forest antelope, as well as various types of monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides a treetop view of the beautiful forest.

Cape Coast Castle

Cape Coast Castle is one of the largest of the castles built by European powers in today Ghana. It began as a trade lodge constructed by the Portuguese in 1555 on a part of the Gold Coast, which later became known as the Cape Coast. The Cape Coast Castle has served as the West African headquarters of the president of the Committee of Merchants; the seat of the British governor; and a school. It is open to the public and is currently a historical museum with Ghanaian arts and crafts gift shop, and it is the regional headquarters of Ghana Museums and Monuments Board4

Elmina Castle

Elmina Castle was established by Portuguese in 1482 as São Jorge da Mina (St. George of the Mine) in Elmina, Ghana (formerly the Gold Coast). Elmina and Elmina Castle was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, so is the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara. It was first established as a trade settlement, but later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. Today, Elmina Castle is a popular historical destination for tourists seeking to connect with their heritage and a powerful reminder of the history of the slave trade. The castle is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage. The night will be spent at a hotel in Accra.

Day 5 – Accra

Bojo Beach

At the beach, there will be a hangout which will include a buffet, bonfire, local boat ride as well as local games. Guests will also get to interact with locals and form new friendships and memories, as this will be the last night in Ghana. Overnight stay in Accra.

Day 6 – Accra

Dubois Center

The center is named after William Edward Burghardt Du Bois who was an African-American civil rights activist and later became a citizen of Ghana in the 1960s. He is often known as the ‘Father of Pan-Africanism’. The center is where he once lived with his wife and where they are now buried. It houses his personal library, a small museum with a handful of personal effects such as his graduation robes. The mausoleum is surrounded by Asante stools, a seminar room, a restaurant, a gallery, an amphitheater and a research center for Pan-African history and culture.

Kwame Nkrumah Museum

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is also known as the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. It is the last resting place of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. This museum is dedicated to him to honor his dedication in liberating Ghana, formerly known as Gold Coast, from colonial rule. The Museum houses the personal effects and publications of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and pictures showing his life history with some of the most famous people of his time.

Art Center

The Center for National Culture crafts market can also be simply known as the Arts Center. There are so many stalls selling different varieties of Ghanaian inspired arts and crafts and this is one of the cool places to shop in Accra. There is so much to see and buy from woven Kente cloth, wooden sculptures to earrings and other fashion accessories matched with the latest in African Attire fashion from all over Ghana.

Black Star Square

Kwame Nkrumah commissioned the Independence Square, also known as Black Star Square, to honour the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. Independence Square is a vast, empty expanse of concrete overlooked by spectator stands which can seat about 30,000 people. The Independence Arch was an inspiration to other African countries vying for independence and the Flame of African Liberation. The roundabout before the square contains, in the center, the Black Star Gate also known as the Black Star Monument which was built in 1961. The vast area, built under Kwame Nkrumah, is designed for huge events and military marches and commercial events such as concerts and fashion shows, which take place throughout the year. Departure after the activities on day 6.
